ETL Software Engineer

As a member of the Professional Services team, the ETL Developer will be responsible for extracting the necessary data from customer sites and then cleansing and performing data integrity checks to ensure data quality for SparkCognition products and projects.  This is a “hands-on” technical position requiring solid technical skills, along with troubleshooting, and communications skills.


  • Interface with business development, customer success, and directly with clients to manage data between organizations.
  • Drive performance improvement by identifying, quantifying, developing, and assisting in developing solutions across all products
  • Assist developers with complex query tuning, schema refinement and index management
  • Administer and optimize development, QA, staging, and production databases
  • Perform the unit testing, system integration testing and assist with user acceptance testing 
  • Adapt ETL code to accommodate changes in source data and new business requirements.
  • Document the ETL detailed design and test results.
  • Spearheads development of ETL code, metadata definitions and models, queries and reports, schedules, work processes and maintenance procedures.
  • Manages automation of file processing as well as all ETL processes within workflow.
  • Ensures compliance with regulatory requirements for data transmission, storage, and data access including documentation, testing, and remediation.
  • Work with production team(s) to monitor production and staging DB performance
  • Assist in development of project plans and task lists for staging and production deployments
  • Identify and quantify opportunities for improvement in fine tuning servers, and applications.


  • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Engineering or related field
  • Professional experience as a DBA
  • 4 years+ professional work experience with 3 or more of: Oracle, SQL Server, MySQL, PostgreSQL, Hadoop, or Cassandra
  • Professional experience with multiple scripting and programming languages, such as Java, C#, Python, perl, bash, and powershell
  • Experience with logical and physical data modeling
  • Database operations experience in an Agile development environment
  • Experience with Object Relational Mapping systems
  • Knowledge of data warehousing architectures, service oriented architectures, and exposure to ETL systems and server side development
  • Experience with client/server and web-based development models
  • Experience in performance tuning, using tools for stress testing, and building scalable systems
  • Experience writing and optimizing SQL and NoSQL queries, stored functions and procedures
  • Must be a US Citizen and eligible for a US Security clearance.
