Senior Scrum Master

The Sr. Scrum Master will be responsible for managing the Agile/Scrum for one or more software product teams. Good skills and knowledge of servant leadership, facilitation, situational awareness, conflict resolution, continual improvement, empowerment, and increasing transparency

They are expected to:

  • Facilitating Scrum ceremonies / meetings
  • Supporting and educating the Product Owner, especially with respect to grooming and maintaining the product backlog.
  • Working with Product Owners and Stakeholders to provide clear priorities that drive towards organizational goals while maximizing ROI
  • Guiding and Coaching the Scrum Team and organization on how to use Agile/Scrum practices
  • Guiding and Coaching both the Scrum Team and the Development team on how to get the most out of self-organization
  • Guiding and Coaching both the Scrum Team and the Development team on self-organizing to fill in the intentional gaps left in the Agile/Scrum frameworks
  • Tracking and evaluating team / sprint metrics to make sure teams are set up for success
  • Identifying and managing risks associated with projects to ensure realistic expectations are set
  • Ability to understand technical issues and able to communicate them to other technical and non-technical staff
  • Work directly with Product Management, Customer Success, and Executives.

Required Skills/Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree and software development experience
  • Certification in one or more of: PSM, CSM, or CSPO
  • 2-5+ years of experience as a Scrum Master for software development teams.
  • Strong SDLC experience in a software product organization
  • Must have previous experience on Government projects
  • Experience being on multiple Scrum teams in a variety of different contexts (different team sizes, different organizations, different technologies, different cultures, co-located vs. distributed, etc.)
  • Knowledge and/or experience with Agile and accompanying techniques: User Centric Design, Acceptance Test Driven Design (TDD), Continuous Integration, Continuous Testing, Automated Testing, Agile Games
  • Experience building solid working relationships with technical team members and stakeholders
  • Applicable knowledge of the technologies used by the team.
  • Expert knowledge of issue and project tracking systems, such as Jira.
  • Excellent communication and mentoring skills

Preferred Skills/Experience (Any of these is a plus)

  • 5+ years of experience as a Scrum Master for one or more software development teams.
  • Must have previous experience on government projects
  • 2+ years of experience as a Release Manager and writing release notes
  • One or more than one of the following certifications: Certified Scrum Master, and Certified Scrum Product Owner, and Professional Scrum Master
  • Experience with more than one of the following issue and project tracking systems: Fogbuz, Bugzilla, Jira, Redmine, Basecamp, GitHub, and/or TFS
  • Able to administrate and manage control points of Jira
  • Base knowledge of AngularJS / Bootstrap, Java, SQL/NoSQL, Networking, and distributed systems
  • Knowledge of other approaches discussed in the Agile space: XP, Kanban, Crystal, FDD, etc
  • Experience applying a wide variety of well documented patterns and techniques for filling in the intentional gaps left in the Scrum approach (example: numerous Burndown techniques, numerous Retrospective formats, handling bugs, etc…)
  • Track record of continued and recent education in Scrum, including training, conferences, user groups, self-study, etc.
